Knowledge, Attitude and Practices about Dental Caries among Dentists



Abstract
The purpose of this study was to establish base linedata for developing appropriate strategies to improve the oral health of koreans, and to provide a information regarding knowledge, attitude and practices about dental caries among Korean
dentists.
A questionnare with a cover letter was mailed to 2,168 dentists selected by stratified random sampling method. Postcard reminder was sent to dentists who would not respond respectively after 3 weeks.
Calculating and analyzing the collected data of 783 respondents by each questionnare, following results were obtained.
1. 94.5% of dentists agreed that Koreans did not seek routine dental care because they were unaware of the need for routine dental care and 91.2% of dentists agreeded that Koreans did not seek routine dental care because they feared the
discomfort
associated with dental care.
2. The most of dentists had little knosledge about dental caries prevention and didn't practice about prevention. It is recommended that dental cares prevention practice educaton in dental school must be developed.
3. Dental caries preventive practices should be provided in the continuing dental education program.
4. About half of the dentists didn't know about his community dental health programs.
5. Dentist and physician should cooperate for the effective prevention of dental caries in children and the knowledge about oral health should be provided to medical school students.
